Carol Ruth Yerington

Carol Ruth Yerington, age 82, of Albia and formerly of Muscatine, passed away Thursday, November 16, 2017 at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia, Iowa. Carol was born on August 18, 1935 to Philip and Lucille (Tobias) Wheeler in Muscatine, Iowa. She attended the Muscatine Catholic High School and graduated with the Class of 1953. On April 23, 1954 she was united in marriage to Leo Yerington at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Muscatine. To this union 12 children were born, Victoria, Kevin, Timothy, Rose, Mary, Brian, Cheryl, Leo, Daniel, Joseph, Kyle and Christine. Carol was a devoted homemaker raising a large and loving family. She worked for the Hayes Catholic Elementary School and later the Muscatine Community Y. Carol was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Church in Muscatine. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, making blankets, gloves, slippers and other items of clothing. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles, watching Wheel of Fortune and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Her real joy in life was spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Carol is survived by her children, Victoria Ruth Plank of Albia, Kevin Edward Yerington of Muscatine, Timothy John (Lisa) Yerington of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Rose Marie (Randy) Mosier of North Liberty, Mary Kay (Kevin) Bennett of Centerville, Brian Leo (Dana) Yerington of Muscatine, Cheryl Ann (Timothy) Plank of Eddyville, Leo Edward Jr (Diana) Yerington of Davenport, Daniel William (Nancy) Yerington of Wilton, Iowa, Joseph Patrick (DeEtta) Yerington of Albia, Kyle Eugene (Jenny) Yerington of Le Claire, IA, and Christine Sue (Jeff) Walls of Oxford, Iowa; step-daughter, Terry (Sandy) Lee of Deland, FL; 59 grandchildren; 58 great grandchildren; and a sister, Judy Buckley. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Yerington Sr; her parents, Philip and Lucille; a sister, Janet and a sister in infancy, Barbara. A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, November 19, 2017 with the family present from 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Muscatine American Legion Post 27, located at 110 S Houser St; Muscatine, Iowa 52761. A private family burial was held prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Tenco Industries of Ottumwa or MCSA of Muscatine.
