Lois Darlene Behrens

Lois Darlene Behrens, age 72, of Albia, IA, passed away Monday, December 6, 2021, at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia. Lois was born on April 7, 1949, at home in Albia to Orval and Margaret (See) Stephens. She grew up attending school in Albia and graduated from the Albia High School. On October 1, 1967, she was united in marriage to Roger Gene Behrens at the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Albia, and to this union, 2 children were born, Shelia and Kevin. Lois and Roger Gene shared 54 years of marriage prior to her passing. Lois was a cosmetologist and owned and operated Shear Perfection hair salon in Albia for many years. She was also an instructor at the Ottumwa School of Beauty and was an elder for the Community Church of Christ. Lois enjoyed doing crafts, traveling, and shopping. She could often be found doodling. Lois was talented in all things that she did. She was a Girl Scout leader for over 25 years. She was very involved in her church and was a good and faithful servant of the Lord. Her true joy in life was spending time with her children and grandchildren. Lois is survived by her husband, Roger Gene Behrens; her children, Shelia Leonard and Kevin (Paula) Behrens; 12 grandchildren, Ashlynn Leonard, Shawn Leonard, Randall Behrens, Kodi Behrens, Taylor Gentry, Sarah Burman, Kyle Behrens, Jenny Spiewak, Joseph DeAngelis, Timothy DeAngelis, Jessica Skarin, and Aaron DeAngelis; 17 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and her siblings, George (Marsha Driskell) Stephens, Ray (Carol) Stephens, Kay (Frank) Miller, Lee (Chris) Stephens, and Judy (Kevin) Dunkin. Lois is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends. Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Orval and Margaret Stephens and her stepfather, Dow Rogers. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 11, 2021, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Lois’s family present to greet family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 11, 2021, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Jim and Annette Trinkle co-officiating. A private family burial will be held at a later date. Memorials have been established to the Welcome Home Soldier Memorial in Albia and the American Cancer Society.
