JoAnn Marie (Sager) Post

JoAnn Marie (Sager) Post, age 86, of Albia, IA, passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at Crystal Heights Care Center in Oskaloosa, IA. JoAnn was born on February 1, 1938, in Council Bluffs, NE, to Irvin and Eleanor (Scott) Sager. She graduated from Lovilia High School in 1956. Following high school, JoAnn moved to Des Moines to work at Bell Telephone Company. On January 2, 1957, she was united in marriage to Paul Eugene Post. JoAnn and Gene were blessed with 3 children, Daniel, Robert, and Connie, and shared nearly 63 years of marriage prior to Gene’s passing on May 10, 2020. JoAnn worked for the Albia Telephone Company and Public Health until her retirement. She loved working in her flower beds, had an interest in crafts, loved adding to her ceramic collection, painted several pictures, and enjoyed going on trips with her friends and family. She also loved her animals, especially her dogs and cats. She was an excellent baker, known for her homemade black raspberry pies, and made wedding cakes for her children. She always had the coffee pot on and welcomed people that stopped to see her to sit and have a meal with her, and a cup of coffee. JoAnn was very kind and generous to others. She adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren and proudly displayed their pictures. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Albia, neighborhood club, and ladies stock market club. JoAnn is survived by her three children, Daniel (Tammy) Post, Robert Post, and Connie (Brett) Dorwart; 4 grandchildren, Marc (Catherine) Mullin, Austin (Lexy) Post, Brittany Mullin, and Amber Post; 8 great grandchildren, Stella, Belle, Lauren, Finn, Leo, Quinn, Seeley, and Scarlett; a brother, Richard Sager; as well as Michael Lenger and Bob Giesel who were also like children to her. JoAnn is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Gene Post; her parents, Irvin and Eleanor Sager; two siblings, Vern Sager and Dorothy Needham; and a sister-in-law, Sheila Sager. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with JoAnn’s family present from 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. to greet family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 13, 2024, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Pastor John Sowers officiating. Burial will follow services at Woodlawn Cemetery in Lovilia, IA. A memorial has been established to the First Christian Church in Albia.
