Gary Ernest Stewart

Gary Ernest Stewart, age 62, of Bussey, IA, passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2023, at the Comfort House in Pella, IA. Gary was born on September 2, 1960, in Albia, IA, to Amos Eugene Jr. and Lucille (Silvers) Stewart. He grew up attending school and graduated from the Albia High School with the class of 1978. Following high school, Gary completed the Diesel Mechanics program at Indian Hills Community College. On May 4, 1985, he was united in marriage to Kim Carlson at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Albia. Gary and Kim were blessed with 37 years of marriage prior to his passing. Gary worked at Reeds, starting as a machine operator and later driving an oil truck. He then went to work at Pella Corp. where he worked in maintenance for 28 years until his retirement in 2014. After retiring, Gary went back to work at Manatt’s Inc. working in the concrete division. Gary enjoyed being outdoors and deer hunting. He enjoyed collecting stuff, going to auctions, and trying his luck at casinos. Gary had a love for animals of all sorts, but especially for his dog, Trixie and horse, Chocolate. He was very talented and enjoyed tinkering on things, especially his Chevy trucks. Above all else, Gary’s true joy in life was spending time with his family. Gary is survived by his wife, Kim; 3 children, Jake Barton, Jayci Stewart, and Shania (Raymond) Stone; 4 grandchildren, Kale Mullins, Kennadi Mullins, Nebula Barton, and Gwyneth Stone; 5 siblings, Dale Stewart, Beverly Stewart-Smith, Dean Stewart, Ruth Stewart, and James Stewart; and an uncle Ray (Kay) Stewart. Gary is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Amos and Lucille Stewart; and 4 siblings, Robert Stewart, Marilyn Herrald, and John and Nancy Stewart both in infancy. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Gary’s family present from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. to greet family and friends. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 9, 2023, at that Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Rev. John Sowers officiating. A private family burial will be held at a later date. A memorial has been established to the Comfort House-Hospice of Pella or to the family.
